There are good reasons why competitive athletes often use oxygen therapy. The oxygen pressurised chamber creates an elevated ambient pressure while delivering oxygen-rich air (90 per cent) through an oxygen mask. This allows more oxygen molecules to enter the bloodstream, which increases performance and shortens recovery time after training and competitions. Intensive training is often possible before and after oxygen treatment.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy at our clinic in Berlin can also achieve good results in cases of general exhaustion, listlessness or frequent tiredness. Make an appointment for a consultation!
Knowing that the ambient air contains only about 21 per cent oxygen, it is easy to understand how little of it actually reaches the blood and cells. Therapy in the oxygen chamber at our institute in Berlin significantly increases the oxygen saturation of the blood. We achieve this by increasing the ambient pressure in the chamber – similar to diving – while at the same time supplying almost pure oxygen through a breathing mask.
What happens in the body during hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is that the high ambient pressure allows the oxygen you breathe in to be effectively distributed throughout the body – including areas where it would normally be difficult to reach, but where it is urgently needed. This affects, for example, the terminal capillaries, the smallest blood vessels in the body. This oxygenation of the blood vessels and cells as part of hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes the exchange of oxygen between blood and tissue, which stimulates regeneration processes and can significantly shorten the healing phase, particularly in the case of sports injuries. Oxygen therapy can be applied as a course of treatment, but can also be used on an ongoing basis, with regular appointments.
You sit comfortably in the chamber and can read a book or magazine, for example. You may feel a slight pressure in your ears as the pressure increases and decreases – similar to take-off and landing in an airplane. The therapy is not painful.
In principle, therapy is possible at any age. Relative contraindications are COPD, inflammation of the heart muscle, angina pectoris, possible pregnancy and blocked sinuses or ear canals.
Some private insurance policies that cover alternative treatments may pay for the costs of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Please check with your insurance company in advance.
Of course, the oxygen pressure chambers are relatively small. If you suffer from claustrophobia, you will be given time to look around the chamber and familiarise yourself with the space. During the session, your contact person will be close by at all times, and you can talk to them or stop the session at any time. We are happy to offer you a short trial stay to see if you can tolerate the oxygen therapy.
Yes – even top athletes use our oxygen chamber in Berlin to boost their performance in a natural and completely legal way.
